On 13/12/2017, a meeting with students of the University of Elbasan “Aleksandër Xhuvani” was organized to present the achievements of a project, within the framework of a global inter-university initiative, where students are the main actors in its design and implementation. This initiative, supported by the US Department of State and the US Embassy in Tirana, and with direct actors EdVenture and Facebook, made Elbasan University the first public university in Albania to become part of this initiative.
In the first phase of the project, students from the Department of English language decided to address violent religious extremism by building a platform called “I’m Like You”. So, they collaborated with the Inter-Religious Collaboration Center in Elbasan and through it with the youth of our religious communities by producing an awareness spot.
In the second phase of the project, another group of students selected to work on gender issues and drafted another platform called “Gender Collaboration Makes Change”, where they managed to organize multiple meetings in different cities of Albania and cooperate with various actors such as the Elbasan Women’s Forum.
On this occasion were present students and professors, US Ambassador to Albania Mr. Donald Lu accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Public Relations Office at this Embassy Mrs. Meghan McGill, Rector of the University Prof.Dr. Skender Topi, Deputy Rector Prof.Asc.Dr. Peçi Naqellari, Head of the Department of English and German Prof.Asc.Dr. Laureta Vavla, Director of IRCC Elbasan, Mr. Sokol Lulgjuraj, Co-ordinator of the Women’s Forum Elbasant, ms. Mirela Gjoni, Chairwoman of the Muslim Women’s Forum, Ms. Rudina Çollaku, who became part of an active conversation full of ideas and youth energy where Ambassador Lu made a interactive moderation of the second part of the meeting.
