The Committee of IRCC Elbasan, with request of Muslim community of Elbasan come together to object to the defamation of our national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, by Talha Ugurluel a so-called Turkish historian. Our four traditional religious communities express their indignation at individuals that denigrate our national figures, and state that our national hero Skanderbeg, is an emblem, and pedestal of our national pride and religious unity.

The Albanian people are historically known for religious tolerance and cooperation, qualities that that we inherit today. Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg, not only is our national hero, but internationally recognized and valued worldwide by historians, as well as Turkish historians. Mr. Ugurluel’s statements, and similar acts of retroactive vilification, do not do anything but encourage a regression to times where people were alienated to each other. We do not want that in the world, especially in these difficult times.

We can not afford to have the history and culture of our people denigrated. We fiercely protest these statements, and request that state institutions be more careful to prevent such acts, and to discourage the malicious defamation of our national symbols and icons.
